Internships

The GJC offers internships for undergraduates and law students for the spring, summer, and fall terms. Interns must be willing to work a minimum of 12-16 hours a week for a period of at least 10-12 weeks. The internship is unpaid, but the Global Justice Center will assist in any way necessary to ensure that students who are eligible to receive school credit for this activity will or to assist the student in obtaining outside funding. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

Law Internship Spring and Summer 2008

The Global Justice Center is seeking legal interns for both Spring Semester 2008, and the Summer 2008. Spring Interns must be willing to work at least 15-20 hrs/week until Friday, May 17th. Summer Interns must be availible to work full time for a minimum of 12 weeks. The internship is unpaid, but the Global Justice Center will assist in any way necessary to ensure that students who are eligible to receive school credit for this activity will or to assist the student in obtaining outside funding.

Global Justice Center interns will be involved in current projects as well as have the opportunity to develop their own areas of research as it fits within the mission of the organization. Students should be self-starters who can take projects and ideas and expand on them. Interns often work closely with the organization's President, Janet Benshoof and are supervised by GJC Counsel. In working closely with the GJC leadership and staff (as well as the international women's groups we collaborate with), the intern will learn directly from experts in the field.

This internship is a very exciting position for anyone interested in human rights and international law, international affairs, and particularly the Middle-East, South and South-East Asia. It will involve exposure to current trends and issues in international human rights law and gender equality globally.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in and knowledge of women's rights, international relations, law, public policy, transitional justice, or nation-building preferred.
  • Currently enrolled law students who have already taken at least one course in International law.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Spring interns must be willing to work at least 15-20 hrs/week until Friday, May 17th.
  • Summer interns must be available to start no later than June 2, 2008 and able to work for a minimum of 12 weeks
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Languages, particularly knowledge of Arabic, a plus.

Undergraduate Program Internship Fall 2008

The Global Justice Center seeks a Program Intern for the Fall of 2008. Interns must be willing to work at least 20 hrs/week until Friday, Decebmber 12th, and must be available to start by September 2nd, 2008. While the internship is unpaid, the Global Justice Center is willing to assist students in obtaining school credit or outside funding for the internship.

This internship is a very exciting opportunity for anyone interested in organizational management, international affairs, women's studies, the Middle-East, South and South-East Asia, human rights and/or international law. In working closely with the GJC leadership and staff, as well as the international women's groups we collaborate with, the intern will learn directly from experts in the field. We value our interns, and give them plenty of opportunities for creativity, academic growth, exposure to current trends and issues in international human rights law, and most importantly, the ability to make a strong contribution to the founding of a pioneering women's rights organization.

Specific duties may include:

  • Maintaining, editing and updating the Global Justice Center website.
  • Structuring and maintaining up-to-date databases for contacts, fundraising, and general use.
  • Assisting the program coordinator in preparing materials (including PowerPoint presentations, research, and logistics) for international projects.
  • Fielding phone calls and requests for information.
  • Researching and writing for organizational publications.
  • Assisting with the logistics for special events.
  • Other administrative and research duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in and knowledge of women's rights, international relations, law, public policy, transitional justice, nation-building, web-design, and/or non-profit administration.
  • Knowledge of html.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and perform a wide variety of tasks over the course of the workday.
  • Experience using the Internet for communication and research.
  • Motivation, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with database, desktop, and web publishing software a plus.
  • Knowledge of Arabic a plus.
  • Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Press Outreach Internship Fall 2008

The Global Justice Center seeks a Journalism or Communications major to serve as our Press Outreach Intern for the Fall of 2008. Interns must be willing to work at least 10-20 hrs/week until Friday, December 12th, and must be available to start by September 2nd, 2008. While the internship is unpaid, the Global Justice Center is willing to assist students in obtaining school credit or outside funding for the internship

This internship is a very exciting opportunity for anyone interested in organizational management, international affairs, women's studies, the Middle-East, South and South-East Asia, human rights and/or international law. In working closely with the GJC leadership and staff, as well as the international women's groups we collaborate with, the intern will learn directly from experts in the field. This is an opportunity to take a highly active role in developing media relationships and in preparing press materials released by the GJC. We value our interns, and give them plenty of opportunities for creativity, academic growth, exposure to current trends and issues in international human rights law, and most importantly, the ability to make a strong contribution to the founding of a pioneering women's rights organization.

Specific duties may include:

  • Contributing to the production (planning, research, writing, editing, and design copy) of publications, press kits, news releases, and other external materials for clients, donors, media contacts, and other interested parties.
  • Tracking relevant news sources and collecting information related to the GJC's work, organizing media clips, and following current trends in women's political representation.
  • Assisting the program coordinator in preparing materials (including PowerPoint presentations, research, and logistics) for international projects.
  • li>Drafting press releases and media materials for distribution.
  • Seeking and managing media contacts and networking with press.

Qualifications:

  • Journalism or related communications major.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Interest in and knowledge of women's rights, international relations, law, public policy, transitional justice, nation-building, web-design, and/or non-profit administration.
